Sungai Tekala Recreation Forest
The Sungai Tekala Recreational Forest (Hutan Lipur Sungai Tekala) is located in the Hulu Langat area, close to the Semenyih Dam, 43 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur. It is part of the Sungai Lalang Forest Reserve, which is part of the State Park Forest, or Taman Warisan Negeri Selangor. This unspoiled lowland dipterocarp forest is a popular spot for locals to picnic alongside a scenic river and bathe in its crystal clear water, as well as hike in the pristine rain forest. It gets crowded on weekends and during public or school holidays, but it is never crowded during the week.
The park is managed by the Selangor Forestry Department, which appears to be doing an excellent job. The river is mostly shallow and suitable for children who are supervised. There had been a lot of recent heavy rain, which most likely helped clean up the area. The oxygen-rich forest air was a pleasure to breathe, though it was still very humid and sweaty even after the rains. That's why the wise people stayed in the water to stay cool. Viewing the cascading waterfalls, hiking on the park's one trail, splashing around in the river, picnicking, camping, and nature study are all available here.
