  1. Sungai Tua Recreational Forest (Hutan Lipur Sungai Tua) is a popular recreational forest within the Selangor State Park located about 15km north of Batu Caves. It is managed by the Forestry Department of Selangor. Activities and facilities here include camping, picnicking, BBQs, and bathing in the clear cool water of natural river pools and rapids amid mature rainforests.

Locals frequent the park, especially on weekends. The design is straightforward, with a brick and cement path running parallel to the river for one or two kilometers. Walking from one end of the path to the other takes about 30 minutes. There are approximately 24 gazebos along the way for families to relax or picnic. There are also two king-sized pavilions where larger groups can dine. The main draw here is the river, which was clean and inviting during your visit. There is no waterfall, and the rapids are gentle. Families were lounging in natural pools and sitting on river rocks. A warning sign reminds visitors that this area is prone to flash floods so care is needed at all times.

  2. The mossy forest is a natural environment that grows only at the highest elevations of Cameron Highlands and other mountain ranges across Malaysia. At such heights, low-level clouds in the sky driven by winds, blanket the forests with constant mist and moisture, creating an ideal biotope for moss, ferns, lichen, and orchids. It is something you don’t get to see often in Malaysia, and you’ll be able to take some gorgeous photographs here.

This moist tropical evergreen forest is also a haven for a diverse array of montane creatures, including insects, snakes, frogs, birds, and mammals that are only found in this cold climate. Visitors can explore the mossy forest via a boardwalk 2 kilometers before Gunung Brinchang's peak, which is accessible by road from the Boh Tea Sungai Palas intersection.

  3. Tanjung Tuan (formerly known as Cape Rachado as named by the Portuguese, meaning Broken Cape) is an area in Alor Gajah District, Malacca, Malaysia. It is an exclave of Malacca adjacent to Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. The cape is well known for the Cape Rachado Lighthouse facing the Strait of Malacca.

Hutan Simpanan Cape Rachado was gazetted as a permanent forest reserve with an area of 809,700 square meters in 1921. However, an area of 161,900 square meters was degazetted from permanent forest reserve status for public use in 1969. The remaining 607,000 square meters of the Cape Rachado forest reserves were gazetted as a wildlife sanctuary on January 5, 1971, under the jurisdiction of PERHILITAN (forestry and wildlife protection department) under M.P.U.5 and PG No: 85 under the Birds and Wild Life Protection Ordinance, 1955. (Ordinan Perlindungan Binatang-Binatang Liar dan Burung-Burung, 1955). On April 16, 1996, a company (Dataran Baiduri Sdn Bhd) was tasked with commercializing the park. This area has been designated by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area. The Malaysian Nature Society is active in promoting conservation in the area.

  4. The Sungai Tekala Recreational Forest (Hutan Lipur Sungai Tekala) is located in the Hulu Langat area, close to the Semenyih Dam, 43 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur. It is part of the Sungai Lalang Forest Reserve, which is part of the State Park Forest, or Taman Warisan Negeri Selangor. This unspoiled lowland dipterocarp forest is a popular spot for locals to picnic alongside a scenic river and bathe in its crystal clear water, as well as hike in the pristine rain forest. It gets crowded on weekends and during public or school holidays, but it is never crowded during the week.

The park is managed by the Selangor Forestry Department, which appears to be doing an excellent job. The river is mostly shallow and suitable for children who are supervised. There had been a lot of recent heavy rain, which most likely helped clean up the area. The oxygen-rich forest air was a pleasure to breathe, though it was still very humid and sweaty even after the rains. That's why the wise people stayed in the water to stay cool. Viewing the cascading waterfalls, hiking on the park's one trail, splashing around in the river, picnicking, camping, and nature study are all available here.

  5. Deramakot Forest Reserve (DFR), located in the heart of Sabah, is one of the best places in the state to see wildlife. The Forest Stewardship Council has certified Deramakot Forest Reserve as the world's first natural tropical rainforest as "well-managed". Since 1997, this 55,507-hectare forest has also held the rare distinction of being the world's longest certified rainforest by the Forest Stewardship Council. This forest reserve is home to approximately 75% of Sabah's mammals, including Orang Utans, Pygmy Elephants, Tembadau (Banteng), and Proboscis Monkeys, as well as five species of Bornean Cats, including the elusive Sunda Clouded Leopard, Marbled Cat, Bornean Bay Cat, Flat-headed Cat, and Leopard Cat.

  6. The Shah Alam Community Forest (SACF) is located between Setia Alam (Sect U13), Alam Budiman (Sect U10) and NusaRhu (Sect U10) in Shah Alam, Selangor. SACF is currently owned by the State Govt (130 acres) and PKNS (300 acres) and is highly at risk of commercial development.

SACF is 430 acres of lowland rainforest that has been selectively logged. SACF serves as an important ecological corridor connecting the two remaining patches of Bukit Cerakah forest reserve: Subang Dam water catchment forest and Taman Botani Shah Alam, both of which are thought to still be home to the endangered Malayan Tapir and other threatened species. The SACF forest is a primarily mature forest with large, tall trees, with a smaller area of secondary growth. As the name implies, it is a forest used for recreation by the surrounding community and beyond, particularly hiking, mountain biking, and simply enjoying nature in general.

  9. The Ayer Keroh Recreational Forest, which first opened its doors to the public in 1984, promises peace and tranquillity as you explore the surroundings. On weekends, the locals come here because there are jogging tracks that provide the best jogging experience. If you're looking to go trekking, this is a great place to start. The trails are safe and user-friendly, with plenty of well-marked labels to help you find your way around.

The recreational forest also has a Deer Park, which is a great place for kids to feed the friendly deer. The forest is vast and open, making it an ideal location for an evening stroll, picnic, or watching the sunset. If you get hungry, there are many kiosks around this recreational park that sell refreshments and light snacks. Camping at Ayer Keroh Recreational Forest is another enjoyable way to spend your vacation in Melaka. Spend a night or two sleeping under the stars and experiencing the best of nature at night. For a small fee, you get to enjoy the very best of basic camping facilities that have been set up in the park. If you are not up to set a tent up to camp, the park also offers you comfortably equipped cabins for a very affordable price. The forest is also dotted with huts in some areas and is another interesting option to put up a night in the forest.

  10. The Kuala Woh Recreational Forest (Hutan Lipur Kuala Woh in Bahasa) is a riverside jungle park in Perak near Tapah. The flowing river, mature trees, and hidden valley setting provide a relaxing atmosphere for nature and outdoor enthusiasts. The river is known as the Sungai Batang Padang, and it flows from the Jor Dam in the Cameron Highlands through Tapah before joining the Sungai Bidor just outside Teluk Intan. Because a hot spring bubbles to the surface here, there is one patch of riverbank with natural hot water.

The Kuala Woh Recreation Forest is 13 kilometers from Tapah town and is easily accessible due to the excellent roads. Visitors should take advantage of this tropical garden's beautiful flora and fauna. This Recreational Forest has exploration trails that take you on an exciting journey to discover the Rajah Brook butterfly species in its natural habitat. Natural hot springs near Lubok Merbau are also available in the Kuala Woh Recreation Forest. A 30-metre suspension bridge that crosses the Sungai Batang River also allows tourists to enjoy a great view from the bridge top, making this recreational forest unique.
