The Cathedral Battle Royal
If the pub brawl is the starter, the cathedral battle royal is unquestionably the main dish, and this brawl is more bloody than a high-end steakhouse's blue steak. However, rather of a hoity-toity classical music blaring as you eat your steaks, your ears are blessed with the joyful and raucous sounds of Lynyrd Skynyrd's legendary hit "Free Bird."
That is, the cathedral battle royal is dedicated to Harry Hart battling hordes of religious fanatics indoctrinated by Richmond Valentine's (by Samuel L. Jackson) Sim weapon, which transforms them into deadly psychopaths. The pandemonium is a meticulously organized and infernal war frenzy where everyone has the one objective: kill, kill, kill! There are bullets, axes to necks, and the Bible used as a weapon in this five-minute spectacle of unbridled rage.
During a conversation with Mark Millar, the creator of the comic series "The Secret Service" on which the film is based, he disclosed to Business Insider that the violent church sequence was originally planned to be longer. "What's amusing is that Matthew initially had an eight-minute version of it in one of the early edits," Millar explained to BI. The final version of the scenario has many camera shots to Eggsy, Valentine, and Merlin, all of whom are watching from various spots.
