The Festival of Cultures
The Festival of Cultures is one of the most popular festivals in Gabon. The Festival of Cultures has been resumed after being put on hold for several years due to a variety of organizational issues. The festival was established as a national festival by the late Omar Bongo Ondimba after it was founded in 1997 by Father Mba Abessolo, then mayor of Libreville.
Holding the Festival of Cultures, Gabon aims to incorporate more Gabonese, Africans, and Europeans in order to create a rich and diverse cultural expression, as well as make Libreville a cultural center. The festival is always in full swing and strides in the rhythm of drum beats from dusk to dawn. In addition to songs, dances and traditional clothes, this colorful festival celebrates the Gabonese culture in different forms. It's a chance for tourists to enjoy the songs, dances, and traditional clothes that march through Libreville's streets, as well as performances at the French Institute and the House of Culture. Traditional activities like the dugout boat race have been a huge hit.
