The Pecio del San Andrés
The Pecio del San Andrés was a steel-hulled paddle steamer that sank in a storm in 1856. Although its actual name is el Mio, it is most generally referred to as El San Andres among divers. The Pecio del San Andrés is off the coast of Tarifa, in the Strait of Gibraltar, Spain. The stern and paddle wheels are the only surviving elements of the wreck.
The wreck itself isn't particularly impressive, but it's the artificial reef it creates that's well worth diving into. The beautiful and exotic Conger eel, moray eel, spider crab, lobster, sea perch, and sunfish are now called home. This location is open between March and August.
The Pecio del San Andrés is a deep dive for advanced divers, with a depth of 24-40m. However, it is unquestionably one of Spain's top dive locations.
Location: San AndréSan Andrés is located in the Caribbean Sea, approximately 750 kilometers (470 miles) northwest of Colombia's coast.
