Among the volcanic rock islets and submarine pinnacles off this shore, there is a plethora of fish activity and rich aquatic life. Divers can participate in a variety of activities such as snorkeling, liveaboard diving, wreck diving, and cave diving at the numerous dive sites.

The Catalina Islands (Islas Catalinas) are the region's most well-known attraction, and are regarded one of Costa Rica's most beautiful dive sites. Divers are frequently surrounded by vast schools of colorful fish, as well as a plethora of manta rays and stingrays.

Divers can also visit Playa Flamingo, Playa Hermosa, Playa Ocotal, and Playa Panamá, where they can see green jacks, damselfish, butterflyfish, spotted rose snappers, grunts, angelfish, triggerfish, parrotfish, turtles, whitetip sharks, eagle rays and stingrays, lobsters, and eels, among other corals and marine life.

  2. On Spain's south coast, the Cabo de Palos area is not far from Murcia and slightly south of Alicante. It is home to the well-known Islas Hormigas Marine Park, which is regarded as one of Spain's best diving destinations.

Divers can visit well-established breeding sites for groupers, barracudas, jacks, morays, tuna, and other indigenous fish on a variety of shore, boat, and wreck dives. There's also a good chance you'll spot eagle rays, octopus, nudibranchs, squid, and the magnificent cuttlefish.

  3. Cabo de Gata Njar Natural Park is Andalusia's first marine-terrestrial Natural Park, located near Almeria. With a surface area of about 500 km2, it is also the largest in the European Western Mediterranean Sea. It also contains the municipality of Carboneras, the Sierra de Cabo de Gata mountain range, and 120 km2 of sea as part of a Marine Reserve.

The area is volcanic in origin, and the coastline is a true scuba diving paradise. Warm, clear seas allow for excellent visibility; the water temperature is pleasant from January to December, and the sea is tranquil. But, in the end, you come to dive here to see the thousands of different animal and plant species that await you.

Because the park is a protected natural area, you will need to obtain a permit from the Andalusia Regional Government's Environment Department. You will be required to submit your official diving certification as well as applicable insurance in order to do so.

Alternatively, you can hire the services of one of the area's specialized diving clubs to arrange diving tours. It may appear to be a hassle, but the lack of divers is part of what makes it one of Spain's top dive locations.

The Pecio del San Andrés is off the coast of Tarifa, in the Strait of Gibraltar, Spain. The stern and paddle wheels are the only surviving elements of the wreck.

The wreck itself isn't particularly impressive, but it's the artificial reef it creates that's well worth diving into. The beautiful and exotic Conger eel, moray eel, spider crab, lobster, sea perch, and sunfish are now called home. This location is open between March and August.

The Pecio del San Andrés is a deep dive for advanced divers, with a depth of 24-40m. However, it is unquestionably one of Spain's top dive locations.

Location: San AndréSan Andrés is located in the Caribbean Sea, approximately 750 kilometers (470 miles) northwest of Colombia's coast.
