The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter
The Tale of Peter Rabbit is a children's book written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter, about the mischievous and disobedient Peter Rabbit as he enters Mr. McGregor's garden and is chased around. He escaped and returned home to his mother, who put him to bed after offering him chamomile tea.
The story was written for the five-year-old Noel Moore, son of Annie Carter Moore, the former Potter's foreman, in 1893. It was revised and printed separately by Potter in 1901 after being rejected by several publishers from rejected, but was printed by Frederick in a Warne & Co. 1902. The book was a success and several reprints were published in the years immediately following its publication. The work has been translated into 36 languages, and with 45 million copies sold, it is one of the best-selling books in history.
