Uluwatu Temple

Due to its beautiful clifftop location, Uluwatu Temple (Pura Luhur Uluwatu) is one of Bali's most well-known temples. The greatest time to visit is around sunset when the sky and sea glow in the dying hours of the day.

The temple is believed to have megalithic roots and dates to approximately the 10th century, according to archeology. The temple is said to keep Bali safe from evil sea spirits, and the monkeys living in the nearby forest are thought to protect the temple from bad energy. From the temple's entrance, a picturesque walkway winds, passing breathtaking views. Only Hindu worshippers are permitted inside the temple, but it's well worth a visit for the scenic setting and daily sunset Kecak dance performances.
