Underwater Diving

If you enjoy diving, Madagascar may have some good possibilities for you. Great diving locations include the southern Isalo National Park and the Ifaty Coral Reefs. Divers' favorite beaches are those that haven't been altered. That is one of the reasons to visit Madagascar.

There is a wide variety of animals, including invertebrates, in the waters surrounding Madagascar. Around the island, there are huge coral reefs. There are thousands of different fish species, including the unusual coelacanth. There is a remarkable variety of colorful reef fish, rays, sea urchins, anemones, and octopus can be seen. On the beaches, four different kinds of sea turtles reproduce. In terms of whales, pygmy blue whales live on the Madagascar Plateau, southern right whales are gradually expanding along Malagasy coasts, and humpback whales reproduce off the south-western coasts, particularly at Île Sainte-Marie.

The best diving in Madagascar is found in Nosy Be. For novice divers who want to try out some drift diving, the depth is ideal. This location is a photographer's paradise because of the quantity of microlife. Amazing marine biodiversity can be found there, including enormous coral fans, many turtle species, enormous lobsters, leopard sharks, frogfish, and angelfish. Manta rays and whale sharks can even be seen in the summer.
