University of El Salvador

The University of El Salvador, or Universidad de El Salvador (UES), is El Salvador's oldest and most prestigious university. It serves as the country's national university. The university's main campus, Ciudad Universitaria, is in San Salvador's capital, but it also has branches in other Salvadoran cities such as Santa Ana, San Miguel, and San Vicente. The main campus of the university comprises nine faculties and a student population of moreover 50,000.


President Juan Lindo established the University of El Salvador on February 16, 1841, as a Gral initiative. With the goal of creating a center for further education for Salvadoran children, Francisco Malespin and the priest Crisanto Salazar founded the organization.

The University of El Salvador Library System, mindful of the university's goals and objectives, has as its main mission to provide the University Community with optimal access to up-to-date information resources and tools through the implementation of high-quality services that stimulate student human and professional formation and promote scientific research, thereby contributing to the academic, social, and cultural development of E Salvador.
