University of Pécs
University of Pécs was moved to Buda in 1770. It was known as the Royal University of Pest until 1873, and then as the University of Budapest until 1921, when it was renamed the Royal Hungarian Pázmány Péter University in honor of its founder Péter Pázmány. When the Faculty of Theology was severed from the university in 1949, the Faculty of Science began its independent life. In 1950, the university was renamed after Baron Loránd Eötvös, one of the university's most well-known physicists.
As part of the European higher education system, University of Pécs follows the Bologna process, offering a three-tier structure that includes bachelor level programs (BA, BSc) lasting 6-8 months, master level programs (MA, MSc) lasting 2-4 semesters, and doctoral level programs lasting 2-4 semesters (PhD, DLA). The university also offers one-tier, undivided, long-term Master's degree programs (5-6 years) in medicine, law, the arts, and engineering. In addition, students who are interested can participate in short programs such as preparation courses, summer universities, and partial trainings.
