The Vagabond's debut had the greatest viewership ratings of any public broadcast network in the time slot. Since its release, it has regularly been one of the most searched dramas in South Korea, eventually placing first on the list until its conclusion.

The film is about a mysterious plane crash that kills more than 211 civilians and leaves many unsolved mysteries, and one of the victims is Cha Dal-geon's grandson (Lee Seung-gi). Determined to find out the truth behind the accident, Cha Dal-geon embarks on an investigation, which leads him to a tangled web of corruption. His life is intertwined with Go Hae-ri (Bae Suzy), an undercover agent for the National Intelligence Service. Together they worked together to find out the cause of the plane crash.
