Vera Wang
Vera Wang is one of the most famous wedding wear designers in the United States, known for mixing modern designs with traditional elegance. Vera Ellen Wang was born in 1949, in New York City, New York. Wang attended a privileged childhood on Manhattan's Upper East Side as the daughter of rich Chinese immigrants. Before enrolling at Sarah Lawrence College, she attended the prestigious Chapin School and the School of American Ballet. Wang spent her sophomore year studying abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris but returned to the United States to finish her art history degree.
Wang married her longtime boyfriend Arthur Becker in 1989. After getting frustrated with the current bridal apparel's restricted selection, she created her own design and paid a dressmaker $10,000 to sew the intricate gown. With some financial assistance from her father, Wang launched her own bridal boutique the next year in the elegant Carlyle Hotel on Madison Avenue in New York City.
