Vilnius Old Town Has Earned UNESCO World Heritage Site Status
Vilnius, Lithuania's capital, is one of Europe's cheapest cities, making it an ideal budget travel destination. In 1994, the Vilnius Historic Centre – the Old Town – was recognised on a global scale for its uniqueness and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is the largest old town in Eastern Europe. It features incredible examples of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture that are there to enjoy for locals and guests alike.. Many other ornate churches can be found there, with the baroque style of the 1600s and 1700s being the most common.
Narrow streets snake through the Old Town. There are courtyards behind the buildings, some of which are still used to connect two streets, while others have been closed off by their owners. Make a point of visiting Vilnius during your trip to Lithuania to see the amazing churches, museums, and other architecture. You will find something interesting every few meters, so it is best to walk or rent a bike to explore the entire area.
