Visit Mothman Museum
A bizarre winged figure with crimson eyes was reportedly seen in 1966 by two gravediggers in Clendenin, West Virginia. Soon after the occurrence, locals started making similar allegations, with many blaming the enormous being known as the Mothman for the 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge and the consequent deaths of 46 people. Mothman Museum was created as a result of the unusual tale, which also attracted the attention of Hollywood and served as the inspiration for the book and movie "The Mothman Prophecies" in the village of Point Pleasant, where the Mothman is reputed to live. It is one of the best things to do in West Virginia.
Original newspaper clippings, handwritten police records, movie props, and more can be found in the museum. Every September, the Mothman Festival is held, and the Mothman Statue, which is 12 feet tall, is located outside the museum. Previous visitors to the museum laud its amusement and fascination, as well as the low price of admission (less than $5 for adults). Spend some time in Point Pleasant after exploring this frightening museum. Point Pleasant is a destination in and of itself, with fantastic dining, shopping, seasonal events, and the famous (and purportedly haunted) Lowe Hotel.
