Vrbo (formerly called VRBO, which means for "vacation rentals by owner") was acquired by Expedia Group in 2015 and combined with its sister site HomeAway in 2019. Vrbo offers the strongest characteristics of both sites. You can search their database of over 2 million holiday rentals by property type, from condominiums to cabins.

If you have a general idea of the type of trip you would like to take but aren't sure where you want to go, check out their curated listings of properties organized by holiday type and local activities. The search results are displayed with an easy-to-use interactive map that shows the distance between your rental and your desired location. While this is an excellent aesthetic, if you shift the map even slightly, the site will become unresponsive.

Best feature: The search results display the top amenities at a glance for each property along with both the nightly price and total price of the stay for the selected dates. Click into a result to see an in-depth and easily navigable description of policies and amenities, along with star ratings and traveler reviews.
