Waldorf Astoria New York
The Waldorf Astoria New York is a masterpiece of Art Deco design with impressive public spaces. This New York City landmark, which takes up an entire city block, could use a facelift and a refresh, but it is still a Manhattan icon. It features refined cuisine at the Bull & Bear Prime steakhouse, pampering therapy at the Waldorf Astoria Spa, and the legendary hospitality of Peacock Alley, a fine dining, Contemporary American restaurant. It has 1,235 single and double rooms, as well as 208 one-bedroom suites. The Towers of the Waldorf Astoria New York occupy the top 14 floors and house residential-style suite apartments with an exclusive entrance steps off Park Avenue.
The gracious staff will treat you like Princess Grace as you click across the sparkling marble floor of this 1931 hotel's grandiose lobby (a former guest). It's worth visiting this art deco historic landmark just for the history (it's been the preferred lodging for numerous US presidents; a temporary residence for Marilyn Monroe in 1955; and, of course, the birthplace of the Waldorf salad). However, you may discover that your room does not live up to its illustrious past: Their traditionally decorated room had lost some of its luster during a recent stay. A luxurious bathroom with water pressure to rival Niagara almost compensated, and total indulgence can be yours in the glamorous 19th-floor Guerlain spa, which has hydrotherapy suites, an iPad-equipped wellness lounge serving light dishes—and spectacular city views.
