The Warwick, built in 1926 by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, was frequented by Elvis Presley and the Beatles during their tours, and the top-floor suite with wraparound balcony was once Cary Grant's home. The rooms are exceptionally large by midtown standards, and they are decorated in an understated-neoclassical style to match the hotel's history. Check out illustrator Dean Cornwell's historical-themed 1930s wall paintings in the refurbished Murals on 54 restaurant—they contain images considered obscene at the time (such as an American Indian's bare buttocks), which Cornwell included in retaliation for a payment dispute.
