Watamu Town
Watamu Town is a small town located approximately 20 kilometers south of Malindi. The name means "sweet people." It is situated between Watamu Bay and Blue Lagoon to the north and south, respectively. Turtle Bay runs south from Blue Lagoon to meet Mida Creek. Watamu town has evolved from a small coastal village to a ramshackle settlement of huts and buildings. The town is expanding rapidly as a result of the area's popularity as a great vacation destination, and it has a growing economy and population.
There's a cheery line-up of stalls in the village selling brightly colored fashions, local carvings, and vibrant art. There are also Italian coffee shops, gelato bars, wine shops, delicatessens, and bakeries in the area. Fishermen sell fresh-from-the-sea fish. Gourmet restaurants to simple roadside snack bars are available. Customers come from all over the world. There are Italian and British residents, as well as multi-cultural tourists and a friendly mix of locals. And the place's upbeat vibe is exemplified by the fact that most people get around by walking along the beach or taking a brightly painted tuk tuk (motorcycle taxi).
