ZUMA
This upmarket Japanese restaurant on the outskirts of Downtown serves fine dining dishes in a casual, contemporary setting with views of the water.
The minor victory of getting a reservation at Zuma is well worth the effort. An increasingly popular form of casual dining, the famed Japanese izakaya owned by a London immigrant is anything but laid-back (see: no shorts or beachwear allowed). Day and night, the riverfront restaurant is packed with gorgeous people who are aware that they are just as much a part of the spectacle as the planned activity in the roomy open kitchen. There will be a huge variety of contemporary Japanese snacks available, including tiger prawn tempura and sea bass sashimi with yuzu, salmon roe, and truffle oil.One of the best brunches in town is served at Zuma. It's a baikingu (buffet) setup, so you have access to a wide selection of the most popular foods on the menu. In a rush during the working day? Choose a set meal that will be served to guests in under an hour.
The weekend brunch at Zuma offers the best value for your money. For $99, you can enjoy bottomless champagne, unlimited helpings of a buffet piled high with Japanese appetizers and sushi, your choice of entrée—such as spicy beef tenderloin or miso cod—and an Instagrammable dessert platter for the table.
