    Snapple

Snapple, a popular brand of tea and juice drinks, was founded by Leonard Marsh, Hyman Golden, and Arnold Greenberg in 1972. The original producer of Snapple was a company known as Unadulterated Food Products. The founders initially conceived it as a part-time venture to supply fruit juices to health food stores.

The name “Snapple” came from one of their early apple juice products. A batch of this juice fermented in the bottle, causing the bottle caps to fly off. This incident led to the product being named “Snapple”, a portmanteau derived from the words ‘snappy’ and 'apple’.

Over time, Snapple expanded its product line. It did not manufacture its first tea, lemon tea, until 1987. As of 2016, Snapple offers many different types of beverages: tea (multiple flavors), juice drinks, lemonade, and bottled water.

Snapple’s brand slogan is "Made from the Best Stuff on Earth". The brand achieved fame due to various pop-culture references and a popular series of TV advertisements in the early 1990s featuring Wendy Kaufman (the “Snapple Lady”) answering letters from Snapple fans.

    Tropicana

Tropicana is an American fruit-based beverage company founded in 1947 by Anthony T. Rossi in Bradenton, Florida. Rossi, an immigrant from Italy, initially bought oranges from supermarkets and turned them into citrus gift boxes. By the late 1940s, Rossi developed a unique process to aseptically package citrus fruits in glass containers for mass distribution.

In 1954, the company introduced flash pasteurization of juice and Tropicana Pure Premium. This process raised the temperature of juice for a short time to preserve its taste, allowing consumers to enjoy the fresh taste of pure not-from-concentrate juice in a chilled package.

Tropicana continued to innovate and grow. In 1957, the Steamship Tropicana began delivering 1.5 million gallons of orange juice from Florida to New York every week. By 1993, Tropicana was buying more than 20% of all of Florida’s annual orange crop.

Minute Maid is a product line of beverages, usually associated with lemonade or orange juice, but now extends to soft drinks of different kinds. The company was originally incorporated in 1945 as Florida Foods, Inc, then later became Vacuum Foods Corporation. It was the first company to market frozen orange juice concentrate, allowing it to be distributed throughout the United States and served year-round.

The Minute Maid Company is owned by The Coca-Cola Company, the world’s largest marketer of fruit juices and drinks. The firm opened its headquarters in Sugar Land Town Square in Sugar Land, Texas, United States, on February 16, 2009; previously it was headquartered in the 2000 St. James Place building in Houston.

In 1945, the National Research Corporation (NRC) of Boston, Massachusetts, developed a method of dehydrating medical products for use in the U.S. war effort1. The US Army wanted to extend this process to nutritious food, so NRC created a new subsidiary, the Florida Foods Corporation. Led by John M. Fox, Florida Foods Corporation won a government contract worth $750,000 for 500,000 lb (227,000 kg) of powdered orange juice for the war.

    Bolthouse Farms

Bolthouse Farms, a vertically integrated farm company specializing in refrigerated beverages, was founded in 1915 in Grant, Michigan. The farm was originally a small muck-soil vegetable farm until 1938 when William Herman Bolthouse took it over from his parents. He expanded it and began to concentrate on the production and distribution of carrots. In 1973, Bolthouse opened a second facility in Bakersfield, California, where year-round production was possible. The company has changed ownership several times. Private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners owned Bolthouse from 2005 to 2012. It was then bought by the Campbell Soup Company for US$1.55 billion. In June 2019, Campbell sold it to Butterfly Equity.

Bolthouse Farms began bottling premium fruit and vegetable beverages in 2002, at a state-of-the-art facility in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Their 100% juices contain no artificial flavors and no high fructose corn syrup, sweetened only with natural fruit juice. In September 2010, Bolthouse Farms led a group of nearly 50 carrot producers to promote baby-cut carrots as an alternative to junk food for children. The company markets packaged baby-cut carrots with cartoon mascots and spicing shakers under the name "Kids Veggie Snackers".

    Florida’s Natural

Florida’s Natural Growers is an agricultural cooperative based in Lake Wales, Florida. It was founded in 1933 as Florida Citrus Canners Cooperative. Its initial operations included canning juice and grapefruit sections for its members, and in 1938, it began extracting juice with automated machines. During World War II, the company produced concentrated orange juice for the military. After the war, 80% of the juice the company produced was in frozen concentrate form to meet consumer demand for the relatively new, convenient form. In the 1960s, consumer demand shifted to ready-to-drink orange juice, and frozen concentrate sales declined while demand for chilled juices increased.

In 1969, the cooperative took the name Citrus World and adopted the current name, Florida’s Natural Growers, in 1998. It is currently composed of 12 representatives of 14 citrus cooperatives. Florida’s Natural produces citrus juices (mainly orange juice and lemonades) under Florida’s Natural, Coral Reef Juice Co., and Donald Duck brand names. The company’s primary marketing strategy is to differentiate itself from its main competitors Simply Orange, Minute Maid, and Tropicana by emphasizing its cooperative organization.

    Vita Coco

Vita Coco is an American beverage company that primarily sells coconut water. The company was founded in 2004 by Mike Kirban and Ira Liran. The idea for Vita Coco was born when the founders met two Brazilian women in a New York City bar. The women mentioned that what they missed most about Brazil was “agua de coco” (coconut water). Inspired by this, Kirban and Liran decided to bring coconut water to the U.S., thus giving birth to Vita Coco.

From 2004 to 2010, Vita Coco was involved in the “Coconut Water Wars”, competing with other brands to win the hearts and minds of consumers in the U.S. Thanks to hard work, passion, and hustle, Vita Coco quickly became the #1 selling coconut water in Tetra Pak.

From 2011 to 2014, coconut water evolved from a staple in the ethnic foods aisle to a mainstay in grocery and natural food stores. Vita Coco became a household name, attracting super-fans and celebrity investors that catapulted the brand to stardom. In 2014, realizing that coconut production was having a positive impact on farming communities, Vita Coco launched The Vita Coco Project®. Together with their partners, they’ve formed an ambition to positively impact 1 million people in coconut farming communities around the world.

    Hawaiian Punch

Hawaiian Punch is an American brand of fruit punch currently manufactured by Keurig Dr Pepper. It was originally invented in 1934 by A.W. Leo, Tom Yeats, and Ralph Harrison as a topping for ice cream. The original syrup flavor was called Leo’s Hawaiian Punch, containing orange, pineapple, passion fruit, guava and papaya. Over the years, the brand has expanded to offer 14 different flavors.

    Garden of Flavor

Garden of Flavor was started by Lisa Reed in 2011. She began developing juice recipes out of her home and invited her neighbors to provide feedback on her creations. Word quickly spread that she was onto something because soon, she could not keep up with demand.

In 2012, Lisa moved her business to a small facility in Chagrin Falls, Ohio and the juice bar was born. At this new location, she was able to perfect many of her recipes that are still in use today. Using her extensive wellness training, Lisa has been able to create different juice recipes to treat many health ailments that have been requested by customers.

Local grocery retailers began to take notice that Garden of Flavor had become too popular to ignore. In order to keep up with increased demand, Lisa again moved her business in 2013 to a larger facility in Cleveland, Ohio. This new home allowed Garden of Flavor to invest in more efficient production equipment to meet the new capacity needs of larger customers.

Today, Garden of Flavor continues to juice fresh organic vegetables, fruits, nuts, and berries daily inside its own refrigerated, GFSI-certified facility. Customers are still encouraged to reach out to ask Lisa for advice or to learn what’s new.
