Vacuuming is a small but time-consuming activity that can be made easier with a robot vacuum. However, you'll want something that's both powerful and quiet, ... read more...

  1. The iRobot Roomba i3+ Robot Vacuum is the company's most cheap alternative, including automatic dirt disposal that automatically empties the vacuum's trash. The disposable dust bag is simply replaced every month or two.

The i3+ gathered up all of the coffee grounds, kitty litter, and pet hairs we placed out on the carpet, leaving only around 5% of the flour behind – the best performance of all of the robot vacuums we tested. It came within an inch of the wall in certain spots, but left nearly half of the flour behind.

On hardwood floors, it did better, gathering up all of the coffee grounds and cat hair and leaving only 5% of the kitty litter and 10% of the flour behind. During its cleaning sessions, the robot vacuum did not become stuck.Unlike some robot vacuums that detect carpeting and raise suction, the i3+ provides steady powerful suction and automatically does additional runs when it finds excess dirt.

It just takes approximately 10 minutes to set up, including connecting to the user-friendly app. Because the app does not allow you to create no-go zones, you will have to purchase virtual wall barriers. The barriers perform as claimed, but at roughly $40 each, I prefer to keep the Roomba out of areas I want to protect using everyday household objects.

The other negative with the i3+ is its excessive volume.

  2. The Eufy RoboVac 15C Max Robot Vacuum had the greatest overall performance of the vacuums under $250.

It took up all of the coffee grounds, kitten litter, and pet hair that we had strewn around the carpet and hardwood floors. When it came to flour, it had a harder time, leaving 10% of the flour on hardwood and a disappointing 40% of the flour on carpeting.

Another area where the unit struggled was in the corners. It only got within 3 inches of the wooden corner, and it only got within an inch of the carpeted corner, so it didn't pick up any flour.

On the plus side, the RoboVac 15C Max only got stuck about a fifth of the time during its cleaning cycles. It's also the quietest of the devices we tested, with a maximum suction power of 60 decibels.

The vacuum connects to your phone and is Alexa and Google Assistant compatible. Unfortunately, the software (which is available for iOS and Android) does not allow you to create virtual walls or no-go zones.

In addition, the setup and connection to the app were both quick and painless, requiring only 10 minutes in total. The vacuum has a tiny footprint, allowing it to fit into small locations.

  3. The greatest mopping system is the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo Pro Mopping System attachment. A deep clean is provided by the 480-vibrations-per-minute scrubbing motion. It enhanced the performance of the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI Robot Vacuum.

At least two runs across the 500-square-foot test floor were possible using the 240mL water tank. You can pick from four water-flow levels and two mopping patterns using the app to achieve a balance of moistness and quick-drying. The deep scrubbing option cleans thoroughly, while the short scrubbing option is used for routine mopping. It also avoids carpeting by default.

The Ozmo T8 AIVI robot vacuum incorporates HD video and a microphone, allowing you to monitor your pets or check for open windows and doors from your phone.

The auto-empty station, which automatically empties the dustbin after cleaning sessions, is a more useful feature. The disposable pouch is simply replaced every month or two.

On carpeting and hardwood, the Ozmo T8 AIVI was among the best at eliminating the debris types tested. It's also relatively quiet, producing only 67 decibels on the highest cleaning setting and 58 decibels in Quiet mode.

The vacuum, on the other hand, kept getting stuck on a 1-inch lip between rooms. It couldn't even get within 2 inches of the corners.

The set-up goes smoothly. You connect the vacuum to the dock to charge it, connect the app to update the firmware, and establish a cleaning schedule. The vacuum created a map of your layout after two cleanings, allowing you to define no-go zones to keep the T8 AIVI away from sensitive places.

  4. The Roomba s9+ Robot Vacuum, being iRobot's top-of-the-line model, is jam-packed with capabilities. It self-empties and is accompanied by an app that allows you to easily schedule cleanings, create no-go zones, and personalize your cleaning experience. It can even be used with the iRobot Braava Jet M6 (sold separately) to mop once the vacuum cycle is completed.

In tests, the Roomba s9+ outperformed all other robot vacuums on hardwood floors. Only a trace of flour remained after the cleaning cycle. Its D-shaped design came within a half-inch of the corner, grabbing whatever it could. On carpeting, the performance was still good with only around 10% of the flour remained, 5% of the kitty litter left, and no coffee grounds or pet hairs identified following testing. The unit also did not become stuck in our testing area.

The s9+ was by far the loudest model tested, with a maximum suction power of 77 dB (about the same as a busy city street), and even in silent mode, the vacuum is audible.

The vacuum also came within an inch of the carpeted corner. However, it left roughly 70% of the flour behind, implying that it isn't as effective at picking up tiny debris on carpeting, particularly in locations where the main brushes can't reach.

  5. The Bissell SpinWave Robot Vacuum boasts a 5.75-inch tangle-resistant main brush, a helpful mop attachment, and excellent suction. A percentage of each sale also goes to the Bissell Pet Foundation, which is dedicated to finding loving homes for pets, regardless of specifications.

On carpeting and flooring, the Bissell SpinWave can pick up all of the cat and dog hair. It also only left a trace of kitty litter and flour on the hardwood. It got within 2 inches of the corners and picked up almost 60% of the flour on both the carpet and the hardwood.

It's also one of the quietest vacuums we tested, with a quiet setting of 58 decibels (slightly quieter than a regular conversation) and a strong suction mode of 65 dB. If you have pets who are easily startled, the low-decibel output is less likely to frighten them.

A mop tank attachment, rotating mop pads, and a trial-size container of cleaning formula are among the vacuum's features that will come in handy for any pet parent. You'll also get a cleaning tool to help you clean the filter and remove hairs from the brushes.

The mop attachment performed admirably during testing. Simply fill the tank with water and cleaning solution, then attach it to the vacuum instead of the dustbin. While avoiding carpets, the mop pads spin to scrub away stuck-on material.

The SpinWave takes about five minutes to set up, including downloading the app and attaching the device.

The most major restriction is that it became trapped on the 1-inch boundary between rooms on a regular basis.

  6. When it comes to the best robot vacuum cleaners, the Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro is one of the most valuable selections. If you don't need the auto empty station, you may save $400 on the total price and pay only $700-$800 – a bargain given how efficient and feature-rich this strong robot vacuum is.

You couldn't expect much from a $800 robotic vacuum cleaner when the technology was still in its infancy. That's an absurdly low price for such a high-end product, so it says a lot that Evovcas has able to strike a fine balance between price and performance to give some high-end features at a mid-range pricing.

With the Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro, you get the basics of smart robot vacuuming with an upgraded 2,600Pa maximum suction power, as well as improved efficiency with newly calibrated, laser-based TrueDetect 3D technology to identify obstacles with greater precision, boosting the vacuum's ability to map the home with 2x more coverage and 4x more accuracy than the previous model.

The Deebot N8 Pro's improved suction power also makes it quite good at cleaning up pet hair, so any dog or cat owner who has to deal with a regular spread of fine pet hair on hard floors should be very happy with this one.

Most of the value is driven by TrueDetect 3D technology, which gives the robotic vacuum more freedom as it navigates whatever route you've established via the Ecovacs smartphone app, which is incredibly clean and intuitive. Given that the device can overcome barriers of up to 20mm and recognize the height of steps up to 6cm, and the software can slow the robotic vacuum cleaner down as it approaches dark surfaces and objects to avoid collisions, it won't awkwardly fall downstairs. Multi-floor mapping and accurate virtual borders are unlikely to cause any problems.

Ecovacs isn't taking any chances here because design is quite uniform across all robot vacuums nowadays. It has a lovely, circular body with a raised bump for the camera module, which is used to calculate distance and mapping. The white body will show dust easily, but it is just as easy to clean.

Because the Deebot N8 Pro works with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, it's a good idea to name your robot if you want to use it as part of a wider smart home ecosystem.

The Deebot N8 Pro's battery may be an issue for those with a bigger floor space to cover. Ecovacs doesn't specify a battery life on their website, however even if the battery capacity is enough, charging can take a long time. When the battery is low, the device is clever enough to return to its charging station, but that just means you'll have to wait a little longer for the Deebot to finish the cleaning cycle you want.

  7. According to many internet evaluations, the Roborock S5 Max is the best robot vacuum cleaner available. That comes as no surprise, given Roborock's reputation in the robotics business. It isn't the brand's most costly or feature-packed model, nor is it the cheapest; instead, it sits squarely in the middle.

Pet hair has become somewhat of a litmus test for robot vacuums, and the Roborock S5 Max appears to be the clear winner when it comes to the finer stray hairs. Despite having an average suction power of 2,000Pa across Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, and Max modes, it is also quite effective at handling carpets where the textiles are often tallet and loose, which is the primary advantage of picking the Max variant over the normal Roborock S5.

The robotic vacuum cleaner makes light work cleaning bare floors and is a top performer when it comes to dirt and grit, thanks to its prowess at wading through carpet.

The LiDAR is handled by a quad-core 32-bit CPU with a 300RPM laser, making it exceptionally effective at storing and recalling detailed maps, aided by an Adaptive Route Algorithm that calculates the most efficient cleaning route based on the form and barriers of a room. This is enough to provide the Roborock S5 Max efficient laser navigation and floor mapping, as well as the capacity to vacuum and mop equally well - it's currently one of the best hybrid devices available.

The capacity to navigate diverse floor types is supported by a range of automation options available through the associated smartphone app, which includes the ability to define virtual boundary markets and lock in cleaning schedules for certain rooms, among other things.

The infinite range of the Roborock S5 Max is one of its best features, albeit it can't move up or down stairs. This reduces the value significantly, as there are several alternative solutions on this list that are at least slightly better at recognizing, navigating, and dealing with stairs (of a certain height). Robot vacuums, on the other hand, are notoriously awful at dealing with stairs, something Dyson is reportedly hoping to address with its long-rumored foray into the robot vacuum industry.

  8. Despite the fact that the Wyze Robot Vacuum lacks voice command support and has poor battery life, Wyze has packed a lot of features into it. For starters, there's a HEPA filter with 2,100Pa of suction capacity to better suck up those microscopic particles. Because this is slightly more powerful than most robot vacuum cleaners, you can trust the Wyze to collect material like pet hair from hard floors and carpeting.

The Wyze Robot Vacuum's affordability, however, is its most appealing feature. In Australia, you can get it for less than $700 on Amazon, which is a good deal considering you're getting LiDAR room mapping and seven groups of sensors calibrated to precisely map your home and even avoid falling down stairwells. It'll also have no trouble returning to home base every now and then, so if you're not in a hurry, the short battery life becomes less of a worry. Leave this on while you go to the workplace, and you'll most likely return to a spotless home.

  9. The Shark IQ is one of the more desirable options in the world of robot vacuum cleaners, and it's competitively priced in Australia at under $1,000. With its easy-to-clean bagless self-emptying station, Shark provides a robot vacuum that can hold up to 30 days of dirt and debris for that price.

Many online reviews laud the IQ Robot's suction power, describing it as one of the most powerful robot vacuum cleaners on the market, capable of sucking up huge trash as well as tiny annoyances like dog hair and grime.

The Shark Clean app is simple and well-organized, making it much easier to plan cleanings for each day of the week while also allowing you to choose which rooms to clean and which to avoid.

  10. The Eufy Robovac G30 Edge's major advantage is its low profile, which is designed to fit under furniture better than most other robot vacuum cleaners. It's also quieter than the normal robot vacuum, which is always a plus if you have dogs who could be frightened by the buzzing freak flying around the house while you're relaxing.

While a higher-end robot vacuum with more intelligence is preferable, this cheap version is the best you'll find if you don't want to spend more than $500. You are, however, making a small concession. Because there are no smarts in this robot vacuum, you won't be able to set it and forget it like you would with the other models on this list.
