Roborock S5 Max

According to many internet evaluations, the Roborock S5 Max is the best robot vacuum cleaner available. That comes as no surprise, given Roborock's reputation in the robotics business. It isn't the brand's most costly or feature-packed model, nor is it the cheapest; instead, it sits squarely in the middle.

Pet hair has become somewhat of a litmus test for robot vacuums, and the Roborock S5 Max appears to be the clear winner when it comes to the finer stray hairs. Despite having an average suction power of 2,000Pa across Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, and Max modes, it is also quite effective at handling carpets where the textiles are often tallet and loose, which is the primary advantage of picking the Max variant over the normal Roborock S5.

The robotic vacuum cleaner makes light work cleaning bare floors and is a top performer when it comes to dirt and grit, thanks to its prowess at wading through carpet.

The LiDAR is handled by a quad-core 32-bit CPU with a 300RPM laser, making it exceptionally effective at storing and recalling detailed maps, aided by an Adaptive Route Algorithm that calculates the most efficient cleaning route based on the form and barriers of a room. This is enough to provide the Roborock S5 Max efficient laser navigation and floor mapping, as well as the capacity to vacuum and mop equally well - it's currently one of the best hybrid devices available.

The capacity to navigate diverse floor types is supported by a range of automation options available through the associated smartphone app, which includes the ability to define virtual boundary markets and lock in cleaning schedules for certain rooms, among other things.

The infinite range of the Roborock S5 Max is one of its best features, albeit it can't move up or down stairs. This reduces the value significantly, as there are several alternative solutions on this list that are at least slightly better at recognizing, navigating, and dealing with stairs (of a certain height). Robot vacuums, on the other hand, are notoriously awful at dealing with stairs, something Dyson is reportedly hoping to address with its long-rumored foray into the robot vacuum industry.
