  1. The FIB Benicassim Festival is one of the most well-known and prestigious European festivals that has been celebrated during the 2nd week of July for over 20 years. It is no doubt that the FIB is one of the best festivals of European indie music. In contrast to other musical events that have chosen more conventional styles, it has an amazing openness to inventive, new trends and a diverse schedule. Because of its self-declared independence, there are no issues when musicians and fans of pop, rock, indie or electronic music use the same music tents.

What started as a tiny festival in 1995 for a few fans of a dozen Spanish bands has grown into a must-attend event for music fans from all across Europe, as well as from America and Australia. With a lineup that included bands like The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Depeche Mode, Iggy and the Stooges, Keane, Morrissey, and Pixies as well as artists as diverse as Leonard Cohen, Mika, and Enrique Morente, it is not surprising that the 2007 FIB Benicassim Festival set a record for ticket sales with 150,000 visitors.

The FIB Benicassim Festival's location next to the N-340 freeway in a sizable open area on the outskirts of the city has allowed for easy expansion, particularly through the addition of marquees based on the year's line-up and tickets sold. Especially, don't miss the Proyecto Demo (Demo Project), a competition for upcoming musical creators sponsored by Spanish National Radio's Radio 3 and FIB, whether you attend the festival or not. The contest aims to discover new talent and create new musical careers.

  5. Sziget Festival is held every August in northern Budapest, Hungary. It was ranked one of the 5 best festivals in Europe by The Independent in 2011, and won the European Festivals Awards in the category Best Major European Festival twice, in 2011 and 2014.

Being one of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe, Sziget Festival is held for a week-long and attracts visitors from even outside Hungary, especially from Western Europe, but its start was quite humble. The festival started off as a relatively low-profile student event in 1993. After years went by, more and more artists perform at the festival, making more people interested in visiting it. In the last few years, more than 1,000 performances are prepared each year, and the total attendance changed rapidly, surpassing the 250,000 mark in 1997, reaching the 440,000 mark in 2016, and making history with 565,000 visitors attending the festival in 2019.

    Sziget Festival
is famous for having unique features including "an electronically amplified, warped amusement park that has nothing to do with reality". For this reason, it is labeled as a European alternative to the Burning Man festival ever since the mid-2000s. The festival also has a dedicated "party train" service that transports festival-goers from all over Europe.

Genre: Rock, alternative rock, psychedelic rock, punk rock, heavy metal, pop, synthpop, reggae, hip hop, indie, world, electronic

  6. Given the title "Best Overseas Festival" by the UK Festival Awards, Outlook Festival is for sure the biggest musical event in Croatia and one of the best summer music festivals in Europe. In fact, much of the team involved in organizing the festival comes from the United Kingdom, and so do many of its attendees. This festival takes place in a very unique spot - an abandoned ruin. Here the sound systems and stages are erected in various tunnels and even the moat of the ruins, creating a unique experience for festival goers.

The 2011 edition of Outlook Festival saw an increase of almost double the capacity and the introduction of a number of new stages. This led to mixed reviews from attendees of the previous festival, some of whom preferred the more intimate setting, however, the larger audience allowed festival organizers to book some relatively exclusive artists who perhaps may not have been within the budget otherwise.

Moreover, Outlook Festival also plays host to a number of boat parties that feature artists from the festival and sail around the Adriatic coastline playing more individual selections of music than other stages around the festival.

Genre: Dubstep, reggae, hip hop, ragga, Drum and Bass, Garage, House, techno.
    Dates: July–September
    Location(s): Croatia (Petrčane, Novalja, Pula)

  7. Glastonbury Festival is one of the most outstanding summer festivals in the United Kingdom, with a variety of performances every year including dance, comedy, theater, circus, cabaret, and other arts in addition to current music. The festival is now having leading pop and rock artists headlined on the main stages, as well as thousands of others performing on smaller stages and performance areas. The festival is held for 5 days in Pilton, Somerset, England, and it has been appearing in a good amount of movies, television, and newspaper.

    Glastonbury Festival
is attended by around 200,000 people and can be even more. For example, Despite gatecrashers occasionally inflating the attendance, the Levellers' performance on The Pyramid Stage in 1994 set a record with 300,000 attendees. The majority of festival workers are volunteers, which helps the event raise millions of pounds for charitable organizations.

    Glastonbury Festival
is recognized as a significant event in British culture, and was inspired by hippie ideals, 1960s counterculture, and the free festival movement. The Green Fields area, which is divided into the Stone Circle, Healing Field, and Green Futures sections, still retains some of these traditions. Michael Eavis hosted the first festival ever in 1970. After that, the music festival was held intermittently until 1981 and has been held most years since.
