FIB Benicassim Festival
The FIB Benicassim Festival is one of the most well-known and prestigious European festivals that has been celebrated during the 2nd week of July for over 20 years. It is no doubt that the FIB is one of the best festivals of European indie music. In contrast to other musical events that have chosen more conventional styles, it has an amazing openness to inventive, new trends and a diverse schedule. Because of its self-declared independence, there are no issues when musicians and fans of pop, rock, indie or electronic music use the same music tents.
What started as a tiny festival in 1995 for a few fans of a dozen Spanish bands has grown into a must-attend event for music fans from all across Europe, as well as from America and Australia. With a lineup that included bands like The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Depeche Mode, Iggy and the Stooges, Keane, Morrissey, and Pixies as well as artists as diverse as Leonard Cohen, Mika, and Enrique Morente, it is not surprising that the 2007 FIB Benicassim Festival set a record for ticket sales with 150,000 visitors.
The FIB Benicassim Festival's location next to the N-340 freeway in a sizable open area on the outskirts of the city has allowed for easy expansion, particularly through the addition of marquees based on the year's line-up and tickets sold. Especially, don't miss the Proyecto Demo (Demo Project), a competition for upcoming musical creators sponsored by Spanish National Radio's Radio 3 and FIB, whether you attend the festival or not. The contest aims to discover new talent and create new musical careers.
