The 13th Century Kamakura Katana are traditional, single-edged swords used by Japanese samurai for hundreds of years. They are crafted from the finest materials and are considered to be the sharpest and most delicate swords in the world. 125 of these weapons have even been declared Juyounkabazai - or culturally significant - in Japan. This means that the katanas are judged to be illegal to sell or export from Japan, and are considered priceless. In 1992, approximately 1,100 Japanese swords were put up for auction from the collection of Dr. Walter Ames Compton. The collection sold for $8 million in just one day, and included was the 13th-century Kamakura Blade, which sold for $418,000 to an anonymous private collector. This is one of the most expensive medieval weapons ever.
