Ulysses S. Grant’s Civil War Presentation Sword
The 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant, received an exquisite sword from the people of Kentucky as a gift when he became Commander-in-Chief of the United States Army in 1864. Ulysses S. Grant's Civil War Presentation Sword is a sword of great significance and appeal, not only in its origin but also in its sophisticated design like a masterpiece, making it one of the most medieval expensive weapons ever.
Ulysses S. Grant's Civil War Presentation Sword was crafted by a silversmith from St. Louis and jeweler Henry Folsom from pure silver and gold, and set with 26 cut diamonds forming the USG monogram. The goddess of Victory with the eagle spreading her wings above it is sculpted on the hilt of the sword. It became the most expensive medieval weapon ever thanks to raising $1.6 million in 2007 at the Heritage Auction.
