A Thousand Splendid Suns
Khaled Hosseini, an Afghan-American writer, wrote this novel, which was published in 2007. It's essentially a "Mother-Daughter story" about two women who are forced to accept a marriage proposal despite their objections.
Hosseini has handled the novel wisely, thanks to his extraordinary literary skills and use of lucid language. Toplist recommends reading it in your twenties to gain a better understanding. It's one of the best books in the oriental genre.
The #1 New York Times bestseller A Thousand Splendid Suns is both an incredible chronicle of thirty years of Afghan history and a deeply moving story of family, friendship, faith, and the salvation found in love, propelled by the same superb instinct for storytelling that made The Kite Runner a beloved classic. A Thousand Splendid Suns is a haunting, heartbreaking, and compelling story about an unforgiving time, an unlikely friendship, and an indestructible love.
