Beloved
This enthralling novel turns history into a tale as powerful as Exodus and as intimate as a lullaby. Beloved is a harrowing look into the abyss of slavery. This could be considered Toni Morrison's magnum opus. The story is mostly about nostalgia, with a gothic twist. The protagonist was born a slave and fled to Ohio in search of freedom. However, she finds herself imprisoned within her own confinement after eighteen years.
The book also demonstrates how hard she fought to protect her children. But the ghost of the child who died without a name haunts her now and then. The book presents us with maternal love and passion, as well as a strong moral message. Even if you read this book in high school, read it again in your twenties for a better understanding. Beloved is considered one of the best books to read in your 20s.
