Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and the country's second-most populous city (after Dubai). It is also the Emirate of Abu Dhabi's capital. Abu Dhabi is situated on an island in the Persian Gulf, off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.
The Emirate and the majority of the city are located on the mainland, which is connected to the rest of the country. As of 2016, the urban area of Abu Dhabi had an estimated population of 1.5 million, out of a total population of 2.9 million in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The city is home to the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, which in 2021 ranked as the world's fifth largest sovereign wealth fund. Abu Dhabi alone has more than a trillion dollars in assets under management.
Abu Dhabi is home to the United Arab Emirates Government and the Supreme Petroleum Council, as well as local and federal government offices. The President of the United Arab Emirates, who is a member of the Al Nahyan family, resides in the city. Abu Dhabi has grown into a large, developed metropolis thanks to rapid development and urbanization, as well as massive oil and gas reserves and production, and a relatively high average income. It is the country's political and industrial hub, as well as a major cultural and commercial hub. Abu Dhabi is responsible for roughly two-thirds of the UAE's $400 billion economy.
