Palm Islands
Palm Islands, one of the world's most well-known man-made archipelagos, consists of three islands: Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, and Deira Island, the latter of which is still under construction. These islands are well-known and sought-after due to their thoughtful design, stunning infrastructure, exciting entertainment centers, and other tourist attractions.
Numerous private residences and hotels can be found on the Palm Jumeirah. The archipelago appears to be a stylized palm tree within a circle from the air. The project began in 2001 and was largely funded by Dubai's petroleum revenue. By 2009, there were 28 hotels on the property.
Palm Jebel Ali is a similar archipelago with a larger palm tree, a crescent around it, and space between the crescent and the tree to dredge island boardwalks that circle the "fronds" of the "palm" and spell out an Arabic poem by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Construction started in 2006, but was halted in 2018 due to the financial crisis of 2007-2008.
