Airport reef

Airport reef ranks 2nd on the list of the best dive sites in Honduras. The attraction consists of a series of twisted cave systems that you can swim through on your approach to the sandy flats where you could see moray eels. Because the finest of the site is approximately 10 meters, even first-time divers with no qualifications can enjoy all of the attractions of this dive location.

The best time to dive the Airport reef is April and May when the weather is warm and dry. The rainy season runs from July to January, with most rain falling from October to early January. This is different to the Honduras mainland. You might see whale sharks at any time of the year but mid February to April are the peak months. Sea temperatures are warm throughout the year, at coldest it is 26 Celsius at the surface. Flamingo tongues, gorgonians, black coral and orange elephant ear sponges line the sides of the wall, while schools of grouper, Blue Chromis, and Creole Wrasse dart around the sides.
