Arab International University

The Arab International University of Syria (AIU) was established in 2005 as a privately owned university by Presidential Decree No. 193 dated May 6, 2005. With around 5,500 students, AIU is Syria's fastest growing and largest private university. Arab International University seeks to be a center of excellence in higher education and academic research by adhering to international standards in education and research. The goal is to create a forum for the exchange of information, values, and traditions between the Arab world and Europe in a spirit of good neighborliness. In the social, cultural, and economic arenas, the university is intent on developing connection and collaboration.

Bachelor's degrees are available in Pharmacy, Informatics and Communication Technologies, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Architecture, and the Arts at AIU. The university's primary medium of teaching is English, and the study programs are structured in accordance with the Bologna Process, which promotes student interaction in all subjects. Nonetheless, AIU adheres to the academic credit hour system.

One of AIU's key priorities is internationalization. As a result, the institution is a partner in a number of international initiatives funded by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the European Union (TEMPUS & ERASMUS MUNDUS), and has a five-year track record of successful student exchange programs with German universities.

The Ministry of Higher Education in Syria has authorized the university as a higher education institution, and the "Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany" has acknowledged it as a complete university (KMK). The institution is also a member of the Association of Arab Universities, the Arab Organization for Quality Assurance (AROQA), and the Organization of Islamic Countries, among other international university networks (OIC Educational Directory).
