Tishreen University (Arabic:جامعة تشرين, literally "October University") is a state university in Latakia, Syria. It is the second-largest university in Syria and the second-best university in Syria, according to our list of the best universities in Syria. It was founded as the University of Latakia on May 20, 1971, before changing its name to commemorate the October War.
During the 1970s, the university had only three faculties: Arabic literature, science, and agriculture, with a total enrollment of 983 students. Tishreen University has grown to more than 70,000 students, making it the third largest in Syria, with the number of faculties increasing from three to twenty-one, including Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Science, Nursing, Education, Agriculture, Law, History, Electrical, and Technical Engineering, and Arts, among others.
On May 20, 1971, the university was established as the University of Latakia. In 1975, the name was changed to memorialize the remembrance of the October War (Tishreen War in Arabic).
