  2. Tishreen University (Arabic:جامعة تشرين, literally "October University") is a state university in Latakia, Syria. It is the second-largest university in Syria and the second-best university in Syria, according to our list of the best universities in Syria. It was founded as the University of Latakia on May 20, 1971, before changing its name to commemorate the October War.


    During the 1970s, the university had only three faculties: Arabic literature, science, and agriculture, with a total enrollment of 983 students. Tishreen University has grown to more than 70,000 students, making it the third largest in Syria, with the number of faculties increasing from three to twenty-one, including Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Science, Nursing, Education, Agriculture, Law, History, Electrical, and Technical Engineering, and Arts, among others.

    On May 20, 1971, the university was established as the University of Latakia. In 1975, the name was changed to memorialize the remembrance of the October War (Tishreen War in Arabic).

  5. The Arab International University of Syria (AIU) was established in 2005 as a privately owned university by Presidential Decree No. 193 dated May 6, 2005. With around 5,500 students, AIU is Syria's fastest growing and largest private university. Arab International University seeks to be a center of excellence in higher education and academic research by adhering to international standards in education and research. The goal is to create a forum for the exchange of information, values, and traditions between the Arab world and Europe in a spirit of good neighborliness.
