Artemis

The Romans linked Artemis with Diana, the Greek goddess of untamed animals, the hunt, and greenery as well as virginity and childbirth. Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo and the love child of Zeus and Leto. She established herself as a great archer and skillful huntress, whereas Apollo enjoyed fiddling with the lyre's strings, and she favored pulling the bow's strings. She was able to help her mother Leto give birth to her sister Apollo after she was born, earning the title of protector of labor and delivery.

Artemis was the most popular deity among people in rural areas. Her role and personality changed widely according to the location, but it appears that the goddess of untamed nature, who frequently danced with nymphs, was at the heart of all her manifestations. Artemis' title, "Mistress of Animals," was that she was the epitome of the sportsman's ideal, killing game but simultaneously protecting it, especially the young.

Artemis committed to maintaining everlasting chastity for the rest of her life and to staying a virgin forever after witnessing the struggles that her mother through for having raised the loved offspring of Zeus. Artemis was given the name "goddess of virginity" as a result, which was clever as she was also the goddess of birthing. Although it is supposed that she finally fell in love with her hunting partner Orion, who was unintentionally murdered by Artemis or Gaea, she never yielded to the approaches of other gods or mortals.
