Åbo Akademi University

The Åbo Akademi University is Finland's first multi-faculty university that is entirely in Swedish. It is mostly based in Turku but it also has activities in Vaasa. The Royal Academy of bo, which was founded in 1640 but relocated to Helsinki after the Turku fire of 1827 and is now known as the University of Helsinki, should not be confused with bo Akademi.

Åbo Akademi University was created by private donations in 1918 as Finland's third university, both to allow Turku to reclaim its status as a university town and to protect the Swedish language at the University of Helsinki. In 1920, the Finnish University of Turku was established, also by private donations and for similar reasons. The Bo Akademi was a private institution until 1981 when it became a public one.

As the world's only unilingually Swedish multi-faculty university outside of Sweden, and hence the only one in Finland, bo Akademi University is responsible for a considerable share of the Swedish-speaking population's higher education. This institution has a wide range of ramifications for education, research, and the social environment. Åbo Akademi University is definitely one of the best universities in Finland.
