Municipal administration, public law, child protection, and civic education were all added as the institution flourished. The first college, the Faculty of Social Sciences, was established in 1949. By 1960, the School of Social Sciences had grown to 933 students and had relocated to Tampere. In 1966, the university was renamed the University of Tampere.
