Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is the latest in a line of young women known as "Vampire Slayers," or simply "Slayers," in the series. In the story, Slayers, also known as "Selected Ones," are chosen by fate to battle vampires, demons, and other terrible forces. Buffy wishes to live a regular life, but she comes to accept her fate as the series goes. Buffy is helped by a Watcher, who, like past Slayers, advises, instructs, and trains her.
