Calico Textile Museum
The Calico Textile Museum, located at the Retreat on Airport Road, was founded in 1949 and is Ahmedabad's oldest textile museum. This museum was founded by Gautam Sarabhai and his sister Gita Sarabhai, and it was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the former Prime Minister of India. The museum contains a collection of weaving materials, as well as designer and colorful cloth from all around the country. Although it began at the Calico House, the Calico Textile Museum was relocated to "The Retreat" at the Sarabhai House in 1983.
The Sarabhai Foundation, an NGO founded by the Sarabhai family, presently manages and maintains the museum. The museum also has South Indian bronze art, temple hangings, furniture, miniature artworks, and Jain items on display in addition to textiles. There are other exhibit parts and a library at the Calico Textile Museum.
