Cathay Financial Holding
Cathay Financial Holding is a Taiwanese financial services conglomerate that provides banking, insurance, and brokerage services. Cathay was founded in 1962 by brothers Tsai Wan-lin and Tsai Wan-chun as a life insurance company. The company's life insurance business was so successful that it was the most expensive stock on Taiwan's stock exchange in 1989. Life insurance is still the company's most profitable business. Cathay merged its numerous subsidiaries and established as a financial holding company in 2001. Cathay has been expanding across Asia, particularly in China, in recent years, and it was the first Taiwanese company to establish a life insurance operation on the mainland.
Cathay Financial Holding Co., Ltd. is a financial services provider. Banking, Life Insurance, Property and Casualty Insurance, Securities, and Other are its business segments. Banking operational sectors operate commercial banks' permissible businesses as defined by the Republic of China's Banking Act. Life Insurance sells basic insurance plans, investment-linked insurance policies, and floating-rate annuity insurance products. Fire, marine, land and air, liability, bonding, reinsurance, and other insurance are all part of the Properties and Casualty Insurance division. Securities brokerage, discretionary, and underwriting are all part of the Securities segment. Assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenditure that cannot be allocated to specific operating segments are included in the Other segment.
