Christmas in the Marianas

Christmas in the Northern Mariana Islands is a month-long festival that begins on December 1 with the unveiling of a massive Christmas tree decorated with dazzling lights along the Paseo de Marianas. Schoolchildren compete in costume and float contests.

Each Saturday running up to Christmas, tents are set up for games, food, and entertainment. On December 22, there is also a mochitsuki festival dedicated to Japanese rice cakes.
