Codrington
Codrington is a coastal town on the island of Barbuda, which is part of Antigua and Barbuda country. Barbuda Codrington Airport serves travelers and visitors to this coastal town. In 1685, Christopher Codrington and his brother John established it as the main residential center on the island. Codrington, as the meeting point of three different bodies of water—the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and the Arabian Sea—offers views unlike any other on India's coasts.
Codrington provides a unique opportunity to walk through an authentic ghost town that was only recently abandoned while learning about the natural disaster that caused it to be abandoned. Hurricane Irma destroyed this small town in Barbuda in 2017. Explore the deserted streets of a once-thriving town and learn how the hurricane turned it into a ghost town. There are also the ruins of a castle that was destroyed by an earthquake in 1843. You can eat at one of the town's remaining open-air restaurants. In general, Codrington is a popular tourist destination that provides an eerie and unique experience of walking in a town where there are more dogs than people.
