The IPSAMOOC project is a cooperative endeavor between Federica Web Learning and IPSA, the International Political Science Association. The World Order that had been formed after WWII began to undergo substantial transformation with the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. A multi-polar system emerged after a brief time of euphoria, during which Eastern Europe was absorbed into NATO and the European Union, and a somewhat longer era of American domination in the international system. At both the regional and global levels, events have evolved that pose a threat to world peace and order. Contemporary Issues in World Politics is one of the Best Online Global Studies Courses.
This course examines the forces that shape international politics. It begins by describing the post-World War II international order before delving into its disintegration and evolution. The course delves into thorny issues in contemporary World Politics, such as the Balkans' post-Yugoslavia chaos; China's rise and Russia's return as major players on the global stage; and humanitarian crises in Bosnia and Kosovo, where the West intervened, as well as Rwanda and other places where it did not. The course will also focus on frozen conflicts, such as the Arab-Israeli conflict, and will close with a discussion of global commons issues, such as climate change, pollution, pandemics, and rising refugee crises.
