Masterpieces of World Literature (offered by HarvardX)
This literature course examines how great authors refract their reality and modify their works when they intervene in today's global cultural milieu. No national literature has ever developed in isolation from the cultures surrounding it; great works of literature have examined the tensions, conflicts, and linkages among nearby civilizations and, in some cases, even further away places, since the dawn of time.
This course will examine the various artistic modes in which great writers have situated themselves in the world, helping us to understand the deep roots of today's intertwined global cultures. It will focus particularly on works of literature that take the experience of the wider world as their theme.
