Crashlands
Butterscotch Shenanigans created and released Crashlands, an action-adventure role-playing video game. It was launched in January 2016 on the App Store, Google Play, and, after 42 hours on Steam Greenlight, on Steam. Shortly after its release, software pirates illegally uploaded the game to Amazon. The game is billed as a "story-driven crafting game," with players tasked with gathering things in order to manufacture equipment such as weapons and armour. Survival game tropes like crafting and resource collection are still here, but they’ve been simplified. Most noticeably, there’s no inventory management. You can pick up as much junk as you want and it sorts itself, becoming instantly available when you approach a crafting station. This is the first major design choice influenced by the mobile platform, and it’s a great one.
Crashlands is an entertaining game, especially because of the fighting, but it feels torn between PC and mobile. Crashlands would have been one of the favorite action/crafting games in a long time if the item advancement and crafting were paced to allow for more player choice and more fulfilling long play sessions. Crashlands, on the other hand, started out quite fun before becoming tedious and predictable. It's a good PC game, but it's definitely best suited to your phone.
