Monument Valley is the most difficult of creations because it is so near to perfection. Ida, the white-robed protagonist, finds herself in a world of impossible monuments, Escher-like architecture dotted with switches that reveal new passageways that she appears unable to reach. The scenery may be changed by dragging the screen to rotate structures and uncover other components that can be interacted with, such as angular walls suddenly becoming accessible passageways or jagged and seemingly distinct bits of masonry merging at the appropriate angle to form a bridge.

Monument Valley's simple, focused gameplay is addicting when combined with exquisite graphic design and dreamy music. Curiosity and play are rewarded, and it's all too easy to consume it greedily, grinning wildly as you unearth new surprises and construct even more reality-bending structures. As you progress from structure to structure, enigmatic, furious crow people begin to obstruct your path, and a tantalizing story begins to emerge. Each scene is more beautiful and engaging than the last, with some of the most stunning scenery ever seen in an iPhone game. Every breakthrough is a genuine marvel, and you begin to wonder what lies at the core of the valley and what its mysteries are.
