Deadman Wonderland
Deadman Wonderland is an anime series based on the manga of the same name written by Jinsei Kataoka and illustrated by Kazuma Kondou. The anime adaptation was produced by Manglobe and originally aired in 2011. It falls within the genres of action, horror, and supernatural, and it's known for its dark and twisted themes.
The story of Deadman Wonderland is set in a dystopian future where a massive earthquake has destroyed most of Tokyo, sinking it into the sea. In the aftermath, a privately owned prison called Deadman Wonderland was established. The prison is not your typical correctional facility; it serves as both an entertainment venue and a place for criminals to serve their sentences. Public visitors can watch the prisoners participate in deadly games and attractions, making it a macabre tourist attraction.
The protagonist, Ganta Igarashi, is a seemingly ordinary high school student who finds himself wrongfully convicted of a brutal classroom massacre that he did not commit. He is sent to Deadman Wonderland, where he discovers that the prison is filled with individuals with unique abilities known as "Branches of Sin." These abilities are awakened through a collar that all prisoners wear, and they grant the users supernatural powers at a great cost.
Ganta soon becomes embroiled in the prison's gruesome games and the dark secrets that surround it. He also encounters other "Deadmen" with powers similar to his own, and together they must navigate the dangerous world of Deadman Wonderland, uncover its mysteries, and try to survive.
