Dettifoss Waterfall
Dettifoss Waterfall is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. This waterfall is considered the largest in Europe in terms of scale, with an average of 193 cubic meters of water falling within 1 second. The waterfall is 100 meters wide and drops 44 meters into the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. The water on the waterfall is always white and foamy while the water in the river is a deep black color due to the deposited sediment. Standing on this, you can see the majestic and massive panorama and the rapid flow of the waterfall. The distance between the sky and the ground seemed to be shortened, immersing us in this unspoiled beauty.
The road to the top of the waterfall is quite bumpy because the road is mainly grassy soil, with many large undulating rocks. From the car park, you walk down a steep rocky trail, there are lots of vantage points as you get nearer to the waterfall for a photo. It’s possible to get right up to Dettifoss from the east side, while from the west side, the path takes you to the cliffs on the opposite side of the falls. The peak season of this famous attraction is summer so it is best to travel earlier or later.
