Hallgrímskirkja Church

Hallgrímskirkja Church located in the center of Reykjavik is not only the tallest building in Iceland but also the most important church with a height of 74.5 meters. The unique shape of the church is said to have been inspired by lava when mixed with basalt. The church was started construction in 1945 and completed in 1986. Hallgrimskirkja's architectural style evokes the image of an Icelandic country with landscapes of rugged, massive rocks and icebergs and ideas of erupting lava. They are all highlights of the natural landscape conditions here.

Residents and visitors can enter the church daily to pray. This place is not only a memorial work but also a place to meet the spiritual needs of city residents. Hallgrímskirkja Church is an active church, but visitors are still welcome to tour the architecture from the inside and climb the tower for panoramic views of Reykjavik. The building is also considered the observation tower of the city. From the church to the observation deck by elevator, to see the whole city of Reykjavik and the surrounding mountains, we can feel how real and close the lives of the people here are. Admission is 1,000 krónur ($95) for adults and 100 krónur ($9.5) for children aged 7 to 16.
